Abide Village is being created as an inclusive community where individuals with disabilities and those with limited incomes can have access to affordable cottage homes, meaningful opportunities, and the relationships and resources that support greater independence, purpose, and belonging.
At the heart of the vision are affordable cottage homes arranged around shared green spaces, with accessible sidewalks and community spaces intentionally designed to help relationships develop naturally.
But Abide Village is about more than housing.
The vision includes a community center, a small working farm and farm stand, a bed-and-breakfast with a tea room, walking trails and outdoor spaces, independent living skills programming, and opportunities for employment, volunteering, skill development, and connection with the surrounding community.
Abide Village is not intended to be a separate community exclusively for people with disabilities. It is envisioned as a neighborhood where people with and without disabilities live as neighbors, contribute alongside one another, and where differences in ability, age, background, and income are part of the fabric of community life.
While the physical village is being developed, that mission has already begun through quarterly Independent Living Skills classes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Ultimately, Abide Village is being built around dignity, choice, independence, contribution, connection, and belonging.

We believe housing should be more than four walls and a roof. A home should provide stability and safety while also connecting people to their neighbors and the larger community.
Abide Village is being intentionally designed to bring those things together.
Through affordable cottage homes, accessible community spaces, employment and skill-building opportunities, independent living skills programming, and places intentionally designed for people to gather and connect, Abide Village will help people build lives that reflect their own choices, goals, and abilities.

But our vision extends far beyond housing.
Abide Village will include a community center for activities, classes, gatherings, and programming; a small working farm and farm stand; a bed-and-breakfast with a tea room; walking trails and outdoor spaces; and opportunities for employment, volunteering, and skill development.
These spaces will serve residents while also creating opportunities to welcome and connect with the surrounding community.
We envision a place where a person with a disability can build greater independence while remaining connected to others. Where someone living on a limited income can find an affordable home in a beautiful, welcoming neighborhood. Where residents and non-residents can work, learn, gather, and contribute alongside one another.
Because independence should not have to mean isolation.
The planned development will consist of at least 30 Cottage Homes, with ½ designated for low income residents and ½ for those with disabilities.
The plan is to have a bed and breakfast with a tea room. Abide will also feature a Community Center offering weekly activities
Abide plans to have a small working farm with a farm store, walking trails, and a community garden.
While we work toward building the physical Abide Village, our mission has already begun.
Abide Village offers quarterly Independent Living Skills classes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These classes provide practical, hands-on opportunities to develop skills that support greater independence in everyday life.
Participants have opportunities to learn and practice areas such as personal care, meal preparation, household management, budgeting, safety, and navigating their communities. The classes also encourage decision-making, problem-solving, confidence, self-advocacy, and social connection.
These classes represent an important part of the larger Abide Village vision.
We don't have to wait until the first cottage home is built to begin creating opportunities for greater independence and belonging.
We can start building the village now, one skill, one relationship, and one opportunity at a time.
Affordable housing is the foundation of Abide Village, but belonging is the vision.
We want to create the kind of neighborhood where people know one another.
Where someone notices when a neighbor hasn't been outside for a few days.
Where residents can walk to an activity, learn a new skill, tend a garden, meet a friend for tea, participate in community life, or simply sit on a front porch and talk with someone passing by.
Where receiving support and contributing to the community can exist side by side.
Where people are recognized not simply for the support they may need, but for the strengths, personalities, talents, and experiences they bring.

It is to build community.
A community where people with disabilities are included rather than separated.
Where people with limited incomes can have access to safe, beautiful, affordable housing.
Where neighbors of different abilities and backgrounds know one another, contribute to one another's lives, and have opportunities to grow.
A community intentionally designed around dignity, choice, independence, contribution, connection, and belonging.
That is the vision of Abide Village.
